The Kiwis know one of their best assets is their breathtaking scenery and The Shack, the 4-bedroom luxurious on-site guest house at Cloudy Bay Vineyards, has been masterfully designed with this in mind.
From the moment you arrive on the white stone driveway you know you are in for something special. The Shack presents itself as a mysterious, rustic, architecturally-designed building with a sharp edge… you have no idea what lies beyond the front door but you can’t wait to find out. As you walk in, the architecture reveals the landscape ... breathtaking views of the Richmond Range mountains and the golden glow of the Cloudy Bay vineyards. A sunken lounge with a revolving fire place, sits comfortably in the middle of the open space. Heads up, there is a private wine cellar, hidden behind a panel in the wall. Stunning contemporary artworks are expertly curated on the walls and the furnishings are luxurious in every way. I found myself sitting watching the soft hues of sunset across the vineyards with a glass of wine in hand - simply perfection.
The four guesthouse bedrooms are superbly designed right down to the unique hand printed wallpaper. You can even enjoy a relaxing bubble bath in the freestanding ceramic bath while taking in spectacular views of the vineyard. The skilful design and the little thoughtful touches are so unique and considered that my time at The Shack was an immersive experience in architecture and natural beauty which far exceeded a simple luxury hotel stay. The property provided me with the indulgence of luxury but also left me with a feeling of warmth and comfort from being cocooned in nature while being surrounded with friends.
The team at Cloudy Bay also offer a number of unique luxury experiences including private wine tastings hosted by a Cloudy Bay Ambassador (up to 20 pax), a gastronomic showcase, vineyard tours by private helicopter, sailing the Marlborough Sounds on a 54 foot Beneteau Oceanis yacht and the ultimate 2-day ‘Forage’ experience.
Cloudy Bay Vineyards are located 10 minutes from Blenheim or approx. 4h15m from Wellington (by car and ferry) or 4h50m from Christchurch by car. Heli transfers can also be arranged.
Rhonda Norman visited Marlborough as a hosted guest prior to attending MEETINGZ New Zealand trade show 2018.
